In May of 2025, CTJM Foundation celebrated the 10th Anniversary of #ReparationsWON, marking the passage of the reparations legislation for survivors of Burge police torture on May 6, 2015.
The programming began on May 4 with a bus tour of sites relevant to sites relevant to reparations history and Black history in Chicago, including the Chicago Torture Justice Center, the Emmett & Mamie Till-Mobley House Museum, and the Silver Room, where the passage of the reparations ordinance was celebrated in 2015.
The bus tour was hosted by Mahogany Tours and led by Dilla Thomas, a modern historian, cultural worker, public employee, and a lifelong Chicago Southsider.
On May 5, we held a community party at Walls Turned Sideways, an art gallery, studio, & community space dedicated to artists and communities impacted by incarceration with a focus on collective liberation, healing, and abolition.
On May 6, CTJMF hosted a luncheon and panel as the keynote event. The panel, “When We Fight, We Win! Reparations Past, Present, and Future,” brought together individuals who have been involved in the ongoing struggle for reparations. Read more about the panel theme and the panelists here.
