It’s been almost 10 YEARS since the passage of the historic reparations legislation for survivors of police torture. This bus tour will kick off and end at the Memorial’s future site in Washington Park and will take us to sites relevant to reparations history, Black history, and the history of Washington Park. The tour will be led by Chicago historian Dilla Thomas and hosted by Mahogany Tours. Dilla is a modern historian, cultural worker, public employee, and a lifelong Chicago Southsider. He has become a widely known and locally adored content creator, uncovering and illuminating Chicago history.
Celebrate the anniversary with us and our friends at Walls Turned Sideways, an art gallery, studio, & community space dedicated to artists and communities impacted by incarceration with a focus on collective liberation, healing, and abolition. We’ll have food, drinks, raffles, games, and more! The gallery’s current exhibit, We Will Have Our Spring, will be on display.

Since the fall of 2024, survivors Michelle Clopton, Stanley Howard, and Carl Williams have acted as local partners for the Arts + Public Life‘s Teen Arts Council to share their experiences as survivors and to support the young people with their culminating creative project. The Teen Arts Council is an introductory multidisciplinary art experience for young people to learn skills in arts, community engagement, leadership, events planning, and more. Join us as the young people present their final project made in collaboration with survivors.
